What is KALI AI?

It combines a desktop GUI, multi-LLM support (local and cloud), terminal integration, plugin architecture, and persistent memory into a single unified workspace. Think of it as your AI co-pilot that lives natively on your Linux machine.

Is KALI AI open source?

Absolutely. KALI AI is released under the MIT license. The entire codebase is publicly available on GitHub at github.com/ombuilds-ai/kali-ai-agent. You can inspect, fork, modify, and redistribute it freely — including for commercial purposes.

Can it run local AI models?

Yes. KALI AI natively supports local models through Ollama, LM Studio, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. When running locally, no data ever leaves your machine and no internet connection is required. It also supports cloud providers like Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenRouter.

Does it support plugins?

Yes. KALI AI features a plugin architecture that lets you extend its capabilities with custom Python modules. Plugins can add new tools, integrate external APIs, automate custom workflows, and interact with the AI engine. A formal plugin SDK and marketplace are coming in Phase 2 and 3 of the roadmap.

Will Windows support be available?

KALI AI is currently Linux-native (Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, Kali Linux). Windows and macOS support is planned on the roadmap. The core architecture is designed with cross-platform compatibility in mind, so future ports are feasible without a full rewrite.

What are the system requirements?

KALI AI requires Python 3.10+, a modern Linux distribution (Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora, Arch, or Kali Linux), 4GB RAM minimum (8GB recommended), and a modern desktop environment. For local AI models, a dedicated GPU is recommended but not required.
